Okay guys, we’re back. Did you miss us? Cause we missed you!

African youth-led youth-focused organization Kurerie Turns 3

Three years ago, we had a simple but audacious idea: to help young people understand complex global issues in a way that feels real, accessible, and empowering, and to show that they, too, could be the change they wanted to see. That spark became Kurerie.

Launched as a blog on September 1st 2022, we are now a growing platform for youth-led storytelling and impact - through our educative and actionable articles and podcast.

Since Kurerie launched, we’ve had our share of speed bumps, late nights, and moments of doubt. But the heartbeat of Kurerie has never changed: young people with the right tools and support can change the world!

The Kurerie Mission & Vision

If you’re new here, welcome! Let me give you a crash course on all things Kurerie.

“Kurerie” comes from Isoko, a language in the Niger Delta area of Nigeria, and it means Change.

Stemming from the longer word 'Makurerie', which means 'let us change', we are about showing how young people’s collective actions can transform the world for the better.

Kurerie is a youth-led, youth-focused, and global digital platform breaking down global issues, showing you your role in changing them, and inspiring you with stories of other young people like you who have decided to shift the status quo. Whether you’re a feminist finding your voice, a young innovator testing an idea, or simply someone who believes in a better world, there’s space for you here.

The Kurerie mission is bold but simple. We call it our 3 Es!

To Engage, Educate, and Empower young people to create impact in their communities and beyond.

The Kurerie vision is bigger.

We want to create a world where the SDGs are not just abstract UN jargon, but real, actionable steps that young people everywhere can live out.

What We’ve Achieved

In just three short years, this little idea called Kurerie has reached further than we could’ve imagined. Even with our unexpected one-year break, the articles we published on our blog and the stories we shared through our podcast continue to resonate with our readers and listeners - young and old, crossing borders and scaling mountains!

So, here we are;

  • 56 published articles with over 10,000 views; breaking down big global issues into stories and steps that young people everywhere can connect to.

  • 10 podcast episodes with 1,000+ downloads; amplifying youth voices from across the globe, one story at a time.

  • Listeners and readers in 167 countries; proof that youth-led change knows no borders.

  • A volunteer team of young people; the heartbeat of Kurerie, writing, editing, designing, and dreaming together.

  • Changemakers spotlighted on everything from climate justice to gender equality, entrepreneurship, education, and tech for good.

These numbers may look small compared to giant platforms, but to us, they’re massive, because behind every download, every article read, every country reached, there’s a young person who now believes in their power to make change!

And that is exactly what Kurerie was built for!!

Three of Kurerie in number

Behind the Scenes

But here’s the part you won’t always see: the WhatsApp brainstorms at midnight, the nervous excitement before hitting “publish” on our first episode, the volunteers who joined with nothing but passion and ended up shaping the direction of Kurerie itself.

Kurerie isn’t run by experts in suits. It’s powered by young people, students, writers, designers, dreamers, who believe that writing one article at a time and amplifying one story at a time can shift the world.

And honestly? That’s our biggest achievement yet.

The Road Ahead

As we celebrate turning three, we’re not slowing down. In fact, this is only the beginning.

Here’s what’s next:

  • Kurerie Website 2.0: We are relaunching our website as a global knowledge hub for youth-driven impact, with a bold new theme every month.

  • The Kurerie Podcast Season 3: With new story formats and episodes, we’re taking you on a journey, exploring our monthly themes through different angles.

  • The Kurerie Community (TKC): When launched, TKC, a virtual hub, will be a community where young changemakers can connect, collaborate, and co-create.

  • Global Presence: More partnerships, more panels, more youth voices shaping conversations on the issues that matter!

Each month, we’ll dive into a new theme, from climate action to mental health, from technology to governance. We are hoping to keep Kurerie fresh, relevant, and deeply rooted in young people’s realities.

This month, we are exploring the theme, ‘Tackling Poverty & Inequality.’

A Thank You

To every volunteer who has written, edited, designed, or shared their time. THANK YOU.

To every guest who trusted us with their story. THANK YOU.

To every listener, reader, and supporter who has clicked, shared, or whispered “wow” at something they learned. THANK YOU.

The next chapter of Kurerie isn’t just ours. It’s yours! Together, we can keep changing the world, one story, one voice, one action at a time!

Here’s to Kurerie at 3!
